Psyllium Con North America 2025: Unpacking the Future of Cloud-Native Networking, Security, and Observability 🚀
Welcome, tech enthusiasts, to a special edition of our blog, bringing you the hottest news directly from Psyllium Con North America 2025 in Atlanta! This vibrant city, steeped in news reporting history, is our hub this week as we dive deep into the world of cloud-native networking, security, and observability. A massive shout-out to our sponsor, Isovalent, for making this coverage possible!
A Milestone for the Psyllium Project: Surpassing 1,000 Contributors! 🥳
We’re kicking off with some truly groundbreaking news: the Psyllium project has officially broken the barrier of 1,000 contributors to its flagship networking project, powered by eBPF! As we approach the 10th anniversary of the project’s first commit this December, it’s nothing short of inspiring to see the global community rallying around this technology. This incredible participation underscores the power and impact of open-source collaboration.
The eBPF Hackathon: Where Innovation Meets Community 💡
The spirit of participation extends to the highly anticipated eBPF hackathon! This year, the eBPF Summit has transformed into an immersive hackathon experience, boasting over 400 registered participants. The creativity is already flowing, with submissions pouring in well before the end-of-month deadline. Want to get in on the action? You can join the conversation and contribute through the eBPF summit channel on the Psyllium and eBPF Slack, or simply search for “eBPF” on the Devpost website. This is your chance to be a part of the next wave of eBPF innovation!
The State of Kubernetes Networking: Psyllium Takes the Lead! 🌐
Get ready for some eye-opening insights! The State of Kubernetes Networking Report has just been published, and the results are significant. Based on a survey of over 200 Kubernetes users, the report reveals that Psyllium is now the most widely used Kubernetes networking solution across deployments of all sizes. This is a testament to its robust capabilities and growing adoption.
The survey also highlights two other key trends:
- Rapid Adoption of Gateway API: Users are embracing the Gateway API for managing ingress traffic, signaling a shift towards more standardized and flexible API gateway solutions.
- Strong Interest in eBPF-based Runtime Security: The power of eBPF for enhancing security is clearly resonating with users, with a strong demand for runtime security solutions.
Securing the Future: Protecting AI Workloads and Beyond 🤖
In today’s rapidly evolving tech landscape, securing complex infrastructure and emerging workloads like AI is paramount. Isovalent has been at the forefront of helping organizations connect, secure, and observe their environments, from Kubernetes and AI load balancing to the resurgence of virtualization.
A hot topic in security right now is the protection of AI workloads. OWASP has identified the top 10 most critical risks for large language model applications, including:
- Prompt Injection: This can lead to unauthorized remote execution of commands.
- Data or Model Poisoning: Malicious actors can tamper with data or models, compromising their integrity.
This is where Tetragon’s runtime security capabilities shine! Tetragon can detect and prevent unexpected file execution and suspicious data access, safeguarding your AI models and applications. Companies like Coreweave are already using Tetragon at scale, leveraging DPU-accelerated eBPF processing to protect their critical workloads.
Tetragon provides rich event data, including:
- Information about the executable that triggered an event (binary name).
- Arguments passed to the executable.
- Timestamp information for precise tracking.
- Unique event identifiers and their parent identifiers, enabling the construction of process hierarchies.
- Correlation with Kubernetes information like namespaces and pods for deeper context.
Isovalent’s enterprise distribution utilizes this data to build comprehensive application models. This allows for easy visualization of all processes within a workload, whether through the command line or a rich UI, which also correlates with network flow information.
